Experience rowing on the Olympic Park and in the Thames through central London
We at LYR are offering adults ways to try rowing and learn to row at the best Olympic venue ever created, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park: ///life.effort.crew
LYR is a charity who work with disadvantaged communities in London and Leeds, and through rowing we help make them more confident and motivated to succeed in their chosen path. These courses will help us fund our important work to make a difference.
The boat you’ll use is a beautiful traditional 8 oared boat, called the Ada Salter; like the boat in the picture above, large, stable and perfect for an introduction to rowing. Ada herself was an inspirational woman from the turn of the century, a social reformer, environmentalist and the first woman mayor of London.
Please select the way you’d like to get involved from the three options below
A one off session on the Olympic Park, a coached learn to row session, which can be scheduled between your commitments and our time table. Perfect for a team of colleagues to have a go or just a group of friends, to break out and experience team work rowing style and have some fun on the river! The session will last 1 hour and can be any time during the day, subject to availability. One off sessions for £160 per crew (£20 each)
Team building days
Full or half day team building, on water and break out room.
We can offer a full day or half day for corporate team building on the Olympic Park. Rowing would feature for half of the time and we will arrange a break out space where we'll follow up with a talk focused on rowing and the fundamentals on why it's the ultimate team sport. You would then have time to reflect on this and work new ideas and methods into your own processes and culture at work.

Once a week for 8 weeks, we'll be looking to start these courses in the Spring of 2022. £160 per person.
Location: By the London Aquatic Centre, Olympic Park. Clothing: Depending on the weather use normal jogging or gym kit avoiding baggy tops, and bring a water bottle. The boat: We will use the LYR Skerry, an 8 oared, fixed seat rowing boat which is very stable and safe, perfect to introduce people to rowing.
This type of rowing is simpler and safer than a normal rowing boat so is the perfect way to introduce you to the joy of crew rowing. It'll be a great chance to improve your fitness and try something new. We'll teach you the basics of rowing in the best rowing boat for non-rowers. When you finish the 8 week course you'll be a confident rower, fitter and with a new mission!
Location: follow this link ///life.effort.crew. The rowing pontoon is between the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the London Aquatic Centre by Thornton St Bridge, about a 15 minute walk from Stratford station.
Clothing: Should be light gym clothing. Please also being a full water bottle.
Facilities: You will be able to use changing facilities in the London Aquatic Centre after the session if you’d like. Valuables we'll bring with us or secure on land.
The boat: We will use the LYR Skerry, an 8 oared boat. Which will be steered and coxed by one of our qualified and experienced coaches. The boat is very stable and you are very unlikely to fall in the river. Life jackets will be able for those who want, or who cannot swim 50m.
