The Centurion Challenge celebrates and supports the transformative impact of rowing at local clubs around the UK. We aim to shine a light on the grassroots programmes that are established around the country.

Each club has a Centurion Nominee who attempts to row 100km in one day. This epic challenge is the catalyst to engage without local businesses to support and donate to their local centurion and outreach project. There are now 9 Centurions, listed on the right, who have gone above and beyond for the sport, and are recognised at Centurions.

The Centurion Challenge is not a race, it is a commitment to support your community by doing  something extraordinary. Thank you to all our centurions! Together we raised over £25,000 for outreach rowing projects around the country!

The Centurion Challenge is inspired by Lucy from Tees, who on the 12th June rowed 100km from Boston RC to Lincoln and back.

Lucy is no ordinary person: an ex-overweight trucker and diagnosed with MS 15 years ago. Rowing is her vehicle to help aid her recovery, before long she was dedicated to the sport and started taking on rowing marathons – now she’s a stalwart for Tees RC and an inspiration to the sport.

With the help of LYR and Andy Triggs Hodge, Lucy raised money for the Boston Rowing Community Project to fund a rowing programme for the pupils of Haven High School. She inspired donations from local rowers and businesses alike to fund this exciting programme, for which we’re all hugely grateful.

The Centurion Challenge has been created to give a platform to the rowers like Lucy and celebrate what she, and the many people like her do for rowing and the communities who participate.

LYR believes that the rowing community is like no other. We are dedicated to finding new, innovative and exciting ways to grow and develop the sport, while helping add value to clubs' outreach programmes across the UK.

The Centurion Challenge will return in Sept 2022. We will select 10 clubs to work with, with the clubs from 2021 having first refusal. If you and your club want be part of the Centurion Challenge then please fill out this form.

Centurion Corporate Challenge

These initiative started with a conversation with Creative Race, and brilliant marketing agency in Leeds. Thank you for your energy!

We're launching the first challenge with Creative Race this October 2021.
- The challenge will be for the office to pull together and row 100km between them.
- We will supply the rowing machine, and help and guidance for your training.
- You supply the rowers, aim for half male and half female, to split the challenge u in the comfort of your own office.

Where we start with one, we will challenge many, with all fundraising going towards LYR and their mission to empower to create successful young people in the areas we work in.

The cost to entry is £500. This covers all of our costs. We'll then ask you to fundraise towards LYRs valuable community work. There is no minimum or limit to this, and anything you can raise makes a huge difference. Building off an incredible Centurion Challenge which saw over £25,000 raised for grassroots outreach rowing projects around the country making a difference to hundreds of young people, we've launched our corporate series.
